Update: Celeb chef Roger Mooking adds PHAT laces to a pair of black, knee-high stilettos!

Tucked away among comfy bars and eclectic boutiques lies Nyood (1096 Queen St. West, Toronto ON, www.nyood.ca), a haven for those who want to experience a different side of Toronto's famed West Queen West.

Celeb chef Roger Mooking (Nyood, Kultura, host of FoodTV's "Everyday Exotic") helms this popular restaurant which features a menu inspired by the flavours of the Mediterranean.

For those of you who have been to a FFW Fundraiser, you're very familiar with Nyood - it's been our home-away-from-home since January, when it provided the backdrop for our first event in a series of fashion fundraisers that included WhoWhatWEARWhenWhy and I ♥ Frocks. Since then, we have run into Roger on various occasions - his awesome, easygoing demeanour and cool style propelled us to invite him to re-decorate a pair of shoes for the FFW/Browns Shoes Celeb & Designer Project!

We paired Roger with Malina Goh, an emerging designer who couldn't wait to help bring Roger's vision to life (apparently it involves adding some phat laces to a pair of knee-high stiletto boots!).
Malina (www.malinagoh.wordpress.com) is a footwear designer by day, accessories designer by night. Her style can be described as whimsical & femme. She has a degree in industrial design from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) and has designed for a range of brands, including Airwalk, Brooks, Fila, and Wilson.

The images are of Malina working on the boots!

FFW presents the Browns Shoes Celeb & Designer Project

Frugal Fashion Week 2010 presents the Browns Shoes Celeb & Designer Shoe Project!

20 pairs of shoes have been given to Canadian celebs and designers. Each celeb/designer will re-design, embellish and re-create a pair of shoes. Celeb chef and TV host Roger Mooking (Nyood, FoodTV's "Everyday Exotic"), style bloggers Anita Clarke (I Want I Got) and Briony Smith (BlogTO), photographer Joe Fuda and designers Kendra Francis (Franke, Project Runway Canada contestant) and Ashley Rowe are just some of the people who have lent their time and style to this project.

Browns Shoes (www.brownsshoes.com) has generously provided shoes, including Manolos, Marc Jacobs and shoes from their signature collections, including B2 and Browns ID.

In July, Toronto's famed Bata Shoe Museum (www.batashoemuseum.ca) will exhibit the shoes in a special exhibit.

On Fri. July 23, the Bata Shoe Museum hosts the FFW 2010 Gala. Following a runway show down Bata's opulent staircase, each pair of shoes will be auctioned off to eager shoe-aholics!

Boys & Heels, FFW's official blog, will bring you celeb and designer profiles and progress reports so that you can see what's being done to the shoes (hint: sequins, nails and paint are being used to create 'wearable' art)!

Stay tuned and check back for progress reports!
